Venetian Glass, 30" x 30" Oil on Wood
Venetian Glass is an original 30" x 30" oil painting on a cradled wood panel. It captured the vibrant sparkle of an alleyway in Venice that is rife with glass shops. I was inspired to paint this one because I had seen an abstract painting entitled Venice, but it didn't say Venice to me at all. So I wanted to try to capture what I felt when I was in Venice, and a big part of it had to do with the crazy, conflagration of colors reflecting off all the sparkling glass, contrasted with the historic and kind of stoic buildings. It's all a little trippy. For this cityscrape, I started with a pour, to try to get that color kaleidoscope. Then I painted the traditional buildings on top of it. A lot of people have told me that this is one of their three favorite paintings, and that it draws you in to the light, you want to go down that narrow and dark alley.
